Karate Training and Certifications

  • 1980: Started practicing Martial Arts with boxing for around a year.
  • 1986: Started teaching karate officially.
  • 1989-1991: Joined the Turkish Military Marine Corps
  • 1991: Started working with TKF’s (Karate Federation of Turkey) official coach and national team instructor İsmet Turna (8th Dan) under the organization called “Kamikaze Karate Association.”
  • January 1991: received a Certificate of Honor from the Kamikaze Karate Association.
  • August 1991: took place as the assistant coach and received a Certificate of Honor at the Ashihara Championship of Turkey.
  • 1992: started practicing Taekwon-do along with Shotokan Karate
  • June 1992: earned 1st Dan in the style of Ashihara from International Ashihara Karate Federation.
  • June 1993: earned 1st Dan in Shotokan Karate-do from TKF (Karate Federation of Turkey).
  • 1993: opened my own dojo, trained over 500 students, one of my students, Aytac Celik earned the first place in both kata & kumite as a national athlete in a World Championship lead by WSKF.
  • 6/16/1996, received 2nd Dan from Hitoshi Kasuya (8th Dan, WSKF Chief Instructor).
  • January 2000: moved to the United States, started practicing muay-thai & kick-boxing with Former Middleweight World Champion Alex Gong at Fairtax Kick-boxing school in San Francisco,CA.
  • 2000: started training with sensei Marcello Iacomini (5th Dan) at San Francisco Shotokan Karate Club (ISKF/JKA)
  • 2014-2015: joined Shotokan Karate Institute, Richmond,CA and trained with sensei Hanshi M.A. Sharifi (9th Dan, JKA)
  • Also practiced Wing Chun and Aikido for about two years each.
  • February 2017: Joined Fremont Shotokan Karate Dojo.


  • 1981 - 1986: variety of tournaments in the style of Shotokan and earned 1st & 2nd place medals in kumite.
  • 1986-1996: variety of kata, kumite & team tournaments as a licensed athlete/contestant of TKF (Karate Federation of Turkey).
  • January 1992: 1st place at 83+ kg in the Tournament of Black Sea Team of Provinces, Turkey in Taekwon-do.
  • October 1992: 1st place at 83+ kg in Taekwon-do. Earned the title of The Most Technical Athlete.
  • 1993: World Championship Selection Tournament lead by WSKF (World Shotokan Karate Federation), took 2nd place in kumite, Ankara, Turkey.
  • June 1996: International Karate Championship lead by WSKF in Macedonia, took 2nd place in kumite.
  • 2001: Open Championship of ISKF/JKA, 2nd place (team kumite).

 Referee Certifications

  • September 1995: promoted to candidate referee after graduating the Referee Program lead by TKF (Karate Federation of Turkey)
